As the 2025 Formula 1 season barrels toward its final stretch, fans are asking the big question: Can Max Verstappen still clinch the Drivers’ Championship? With only eight races left on the calendar, the numbers are starting to tell a story—but it’s far from over.

Where We Stand

After the Italian (Monza) Grand Prix, the top three in the championship look like this:

  1. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 324 points

  2. Lando Norris (McLaren) – 293 points

  3. Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) – 230 points

That means Verstappen is 94 points behind Piastri and 63 behind Norris. It’s a big gap, but in F1, a lot can change in eight races.

The Math Behind the Chase

Here’s how the points break down for each race:

  • 1st place: 25 points

  • 2nd: 18 points

  • 3rd: 15 points

  • 4th: 12 points

  • 5th: 10 points

  • 6th: 8 points

  • 7th: 6 points

  • 8th: 4 points

  • 9th: 2 points

  • 10th: 1 point

  • Plus 1 point for fastest lap if you finish in the top 10

The maximum points Verstappen can earn per race is 25. Over the remaining eight races, that adds up to 200 points.

So if he wins every race and grabs the fastest lap each time, his total could reach:

230 (current points) + 200 = 430 points

What This Means

To overtake Piastri, Verstappen would need to outscore him by at least 95 points over the final races. For Norris, he’d need a 45-point advantage.

In plain terms: Verstappen needs near-perfect results and a little luck—or misfortune for his rivals. Any slip-up could make the gap insurmountable.

The Verdict

Mathematically, it’s still possible. Practically? He’ll need flawless performances and some favorable twists from Piastri and Norris. But if anyone can pull it off, it’s Max.

For fans, the next eight races aren’t just about the podium—they could decide a championship. Every lap, every pit stop, every point will count.

F1 math may be cruel, but it’s also thrilling—and Verstappen’s story isn’t over yet.
